Geeky Onesies A Hit!

fff|ppp|Cutie Pi|ppp|fff

So those Geeky Onesies that Becky made me for Christmas have become quite the sensation!

First, I [raved over them](http://prwdot.org/archives/2005/12/awesome_gifts.html) on Christmas. Then our relatives in Pennsylvania thought they were great when we showed them off later that day. Just recently, Becky posted them on the [Craftster forum](http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=71880.0) where they were received with a great response. And yesterday we discovered that Leah, the admin of [Craftster](http://www.craftster.org/) (and fellow Boston-area resident) had submitted the Geeky Onesies to [MAKE](http://www.makezine.com/), a do-it-yourself magazine/book run by [O’Reilly Media](http://oreilly.com/). MAKE [posted about the onesies earlier this week](http://www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2006/01/geeky_onesies.html)! That’s pretty awesome in both geeky and crafty circles!

I have created a new album just for the onesies [here](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/craftiness/geeky_onesies/). At this point, Rebecca has *not* revealed her plans, if any, for doing any further work with Geeky Onesies. But if you have any thoughts for her, be sure to let us know, either by leaving a comment on this entry, or by contacting her via our [contact page](http://prwdot.org/contact.html).

Update 01/13/2006

We’ve got another mention, this time at one of my new regular reads, [Daddy Types](http://daddytypes.com/archive/2006/01/13/opensource_geek_designs_on_trademark_onesies.php), the “Weblog for New Dads”. Cool!

Update 2 01/13/2006

Whoops, and there are even more links that I’ve found by way of searching for the Craftster thread. I was searching for links to our blog, but since most people are just linking to the Craftster thread, that didn’t turn up anything. Becky’s work was mentioned over at [Darryl Smith @ Radioactive Networks](http://www.radio-active.net.au/blog/2006/01/despite-being-good-puzzle-i-have-never.html), and also at [Yes, I’m Canadian](http://www.kevinyank.com/blog/archives/geeky-baby-wear/).

Another Beverly Walk

Dianne took Becky shopping for maternity clothes today, so I had a bunch of free time by myself. I spent most of it walking around downtown Beverly and taking some photos. I walked over a much greater distance than normal, so I’ve got photos of some things I haven’t posted before. Some of these photos will be used for [Michelle](http://mikao.blogspot.com/)’s [Hometown Six](http://mikao.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_mikao_archive.html#113658473513216358) blogging project – a very exciting project which I hope some of our own readers will take part in!

See all of today’s photos [here](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/events/2006/another_beverly_walk/).

A Day Off!

I had the day off today, and Becky had to work… so I drove around and did some errands. And I took my camera along, shooting in ‘widescreen’ mode. Check out [A Day In Widescreen](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/events/2006/a_day_in_widescreen/)!

2005: A Blog In Review

Our top 10 commenters for 2005:

* [Jenn](http://junefourteenth.blogspot.com/) – 45
* [Angela](http://www.thebiggspicture.org/) – 43
* [Michelle](http://mikao.blogspot.com/) – 33

* Beth Bray – 12
* [Mike](http://refugeisland.net/) – 11
* Susie – 9

Interesting statistics:

* 6/10 of the top commenters have their own blogs
* 7/10 of the top commenters are female
* 1/10 of the top commenters are family members

Maybe in 2006 we can get some more guys to comment on the blog. And more family members (thanks Susie!).

Most commented post: [Anybody Got $250,000 We Could Borrow?](http://prwdot.org/archives/2005/11/anybody_got_250000_we_could_bo.html) with 18 comments.

Month with the most posts: [January](http://prwdot.org/archives/2005/01/) with 42 posts.

Lengthiest post: [Under the hood](http://prwdot.org/archives/2005/02/under_the_hood.html) at 14,131 characters.

Interesting note: Since January 2005, the number of posts we’ve made per month has shrunk from 40 to 15. But at the same time, the number of comments we’ve received per month has stayed steady, and even increased a bit. So I guess we’re going more for quality than quantity?

Here’s to a bloggy new year!

Happy New Year!

Becky and I would like to wish all of our readers a Happy New Year!

We were in Boston yesterday for [First Night](http://www.firstnight.org/). Becky was working at the [Otis House](http://www.historicnewengland.org/visit/homes/otis.htm), where they were giving free tours to First Night revelers. I was helping out by volunteering in the refreshment room. It was a lot of fun – those folks from [Historic New England](http://www.historicnewengland.org/) are a very nice bunch! I really enjoyed getting to meet all of the people that Becky works with, as well as the First Night revelers who stopped in to the refreshment room for some hot cocoa and cookies, and for a chance to sit down and warm up after a long, cold day of walking around.

I also had the chance to take some photos before helping out, and you can see those [here](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/events/2005/first_night/)!

Tripod

One of the unexpected gifts I received for Christmas was a tripod. Ken and Dianne gave it to me while we were visiting them on the weekend before Christmas (though I forgot to take it with me… I had [Corey](http://corey.prwdot.org/) meet me to drop it off this week). It was originally used by one of Ken’s former employers for testing audio equipment, and he hasn’t used it much in the past few years, so he’s letting me have it.

Anyway, I’m starting to practice using it; setting it up and taking it down, adjusting the various controls, and taking photos with it. Here’s my first attempt at taking a [nifty photo](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/etcetera/grab_bag/P1060697.JPG.html) with help from the tripod. The main area where it will be of benefit is in taking photos at slower shutter speeds; normally, I can’t hold the camera steady enough to take a shot at slower than 1/30 of a second without some serious blurring… my camera’s built-in [image stabilization](http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicfz20/page5.asp) notwithstanding.

A really sturdy tripod is something I’ve been wanting for the past few years, but have never had the extra funding to purchase. I hope to utilize it to its full potential with our existing camera, as well as the camcorder which we hope to buy in the next few months.

Yahoo! My Web 2.0

For those who haven’t already noticed, I have switched my [Linklog](http://prwdot.org/linklog.html) from [del.icio.us](http://del.icio.us/) to [Yahoo!](http://www.yahoo.com/)’s [My Web 2.0](http://myweb2.search.yahoo.com/) service. Every time I come across an interesting link that I’d like to remember, or that I’d like to share with everyone, I add it to My Web 2.0. Occasionally these links make it over to our regular blog, but more often than not, the Linklog is the only place to find them. If you would like to follow along, you can simply check out the [Linklog](http://prwdot.org/linklog.html) page, or even better, subscribe to the [Linklog feed](http://feeds.feedburner.com/prwdotmyweb) (also available from our [Feed info page](http://prwdot.org/feeds.html).

My reasoning for the switch has to do with del.icio.us’ recent [acquisition by Yahoo!](http://blog.del.icio.us/blog/2005/12/yahoo.html). del.icio.us and Yahoo!’s My Web 2.0 serve the same function: saving, tagging, and organizing collections of links, as well as sharing these links with the web community (if you so desire). I don’t believe that these two products, performing the exact same function, will exist as separate entities for very long. I also don’t believe that del.icio.us offers enough advantages over Yahoo!’s existing offering to make it compelling for Yahoo! to keep around. So I’m just making a pre-emptive switch over to My Web 2.0, because I think that’s where the future is. I am sure that if you don’t switch, there will be some sort of transition in the future… but I’d rather just make the switch now.

If you’re looking for a great way to keep track of your links, try [My Web 2.0](http://myweb2.search.yahoo.com/).
