New Blog

If you are an observant person you may have noticed that there is a new link in the blog list. oe 1999.

This blog is a group blog started by a few of my comrades from Oregon Extension 1999 in Lincoln, Oregon. I don’t know if it is going to be of interest to anyone who wasn’t there with us, but who knows…you might read some really cool things that inspire you to read something new or to look at an issue from another point of view.

So, check it out if you want to.

Long time no blog

I know it’s been a while… Here’s some things that have been happening. I had a wonderful time in Oregon. We went to some old haunts of mine at the Oregon Extension and I got to do quite a bit of exploring and sight seeing with my good friend Jackie Way. Pictures of our whole trip are found here

Since we’ve been back we have had the Wood/Carter family and Jenn Bresnan visiting. We have lots of fun with them during the week. The Wood/Carter congency departed on Saturday Morning while Jenn stayed till this morning. With Jenn we went out to Gloucester to the Seaport Festival. Highlights of the day? We made a kite and Jenn and I got tattoos… oh. HENNA tattoos. he he

We had a lazy Sunday afternoon picnic at Bradley-Palmer State Forest in Hamilton, MA. The pics don’t even begin to show how beautiful it was today!

“Strawbery bankes forever”

Howdy! I have been involved with my internship for one who week now. This blog entry is for those of you who are dying to hear what I’m actually doing. Here’s the scoop. Strawbery Banke has an old house called the Wheelwright House. It was built in the 1780’s. Until very recently it has housed an exhibit of ‘real’ ‘old’ artifacts. My job this summer is to come up with a plan to make the first floor into an ‘interactive, experience based’ exhibit. Basically we want to set up the kitchen, family area and formal living room just the way those rooms would have looked in the late 18th century. The catch? Everything inside can be touched, sat on, tried out, etc. The goal is to have different experiencial activities for the public to try, ie: kneeding bread dough, writing with a quill and ink, churning butter.

The first steps (which I have jumped head first into) are to research other museums that have exhibits that might be similar and to research estate inventories from the Portsmouth region between 1760-1790. These house inventories will give me a look at what the average home had during that time period.

So far I’m having fun. The people have all been quite nice and I’m looking forward to getting some ideas and research down on paper.

Scrabble This!

The Woods have a little passion. That passion is Scrabble. They play often. Sometimes they have lots of great words on the board. Sometimes all they can come up with is “can”. Either way you have been invited to join in on these games. Post-game of course. (unless you are in the greater Beverly area and want to come over and play).

We have created a new blog. It is called:Scrabble This! and it is a photo blog of each of our finished games.

This idea was born last night. Please travel over to the new site and check out last night’s game.

from Bank to Banke

Well folks, as of Friday, June 6, 2003 I am no longer an employee at Danvers Savings Bank.. I can’t say that I will miss the job, or many of the people, but I did meet some lovely people there who I will miss working with. All in all I think this is a very positive career move for me.

After a week of rest, relaxation, housekeeping and craftyness I will begin a summer internship at Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. I will be working in the Education department developing a new hands-on history exhibit. I’m excited to get started.

The first day of my little vacation has proved to be productive. I spent the morning sewing up a curtain/shade for the kitchen window. The window has served its term as the cinderella of windows, dressed in rags, but is now decked out to go to the ball.

Clean up

I’ve got a few things to mention today:

1. We had a lovely Memorial Day weekend on the Island. It was cold and windy and rainy, but we filled it up with road races, mini golf, Mario 3, and Scattergories. Check out the pics, okay?

b. Congratulations to those of you who discovered the secret new blog feature. For those of you who need a little more help… step 1:Drag your mouse over my head. step2: click.

3. Last night was the begining of another of my favorite shows : The Amazing Race! I think this is one of the most fun “Reality” shows to watch. Last night’s episode was pretty good. It was also kind of predictable. The unfit older couple was eliminated in the first round, but I’m holding out hope for the team of circus clowns!

The producers have made sure to fill out the cast will all the predictable couples, “we’re friends, but maybe this trip will make us more” and “shhhh! we’re gay!” and “dad and son out to bond” and “when will he ask me to marry him!?!” and possibly the most annoying, “we never get along at home so why should we get along here?”

Does anyone else out there watch this? Let me know what you think.

Head’s up!

Well folks, I’ve gone and made a little change to the site. (with a wee little help from Peter)

I had fun creating this little addition and I think everyone may get a little smile from it.

Here’s the catch. You, the reader, must find this exciting feature. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think of it. Good luck and Godspeed.

shake your town

The final two albums will be discussed in the same (final!) entry 🙂

Monday Mom, Dad, Kirsten, Mark, Peter and Becky took a little field trip to Shaker Town at Pleasant Hill in Harrodsburg. It was a nice little walk through history.

We saw a little movie, did some shopping, watched a sheep being shorn, heard some beautiful Shaker music, and generally had a good ole time.

Later that day on our way to the airport 🙁 we stopped for lunch at a local favorite watering hole, Ramsays. Pics are Here

Par-Tay!

Part deaux:

Much of the weekend was filled up with parties and get togethers.

Saturday afternoon the Carter family and Mom and Dad Wood came down from Mount Vernon and we had a big swimming, cookout and hot tub party.

Sunday was spent celebrating. At lunch we had lasagna and gave Kirsten her graduation gifts. And we celebrated Mother’s day 🙂 After dinner some of Kirsten’s closest friends from Asbury and their families came over for cake.

Very fun! Check out the pictures!
