Going Globe-al

Read the Boston Globe lately? You never know whose name might turn up… 🙂

In other news, yesterday I saw a report that Massachusetts ranks 2nd to last among the states in percentage of people who fasten their seat belts while driving – 51%. Only Rhode Island is lower (don’t know what their percentage is). The national average is 72%. I don’t know about all you folks, but I never go anywhere in the car without buckling my seatbelt. I simply don’t feel safe if it is there fastened securely. How can you possibly think that you’ll be safe if you don’t buckle your belt? Becky and I were rear-ended a couple of years ago, and I don’t want to think about what could have happened if we were not both securely buckled in. Please, Massachusetts folk, help bump up the average and make sure you and everyone else you know is buckled up when they get in the car. Starting May 19, there will be a nationwide “Click It or Ticket” campaign, for stricter enforcement of seatbelt-wearing laws. If you are pulled over for a violation and you were not wearing a seatbelt, you *will* be ticketed. Do it for your safety, or do it to avoid getting a ticket – I don’t care. Just do it. 🙂

Quite the Exhibitionist

Before we launch into the events of the weekend I thought I’d post a tardy update about last Thursday night.

After a semester of planning and preperation my Exhibition Planning class opened our exhibit, “Freeing the Line: The Etchings of Charles H Woodbury.” I feel that the exhibit came out beautifully and that the opening reception was lovely.

I would encourage all of you to head down to Tufts in Medford and take a look at the finished product, but for those of you who can’t (and I think that that is most of our readership) Peter and I took some pictures. You can see them here

Episode Two

Previously in this Blog…We watched as Rebecca ate at Wendy’s, parked at the mall, and watched in horror as a small fire grew outside the Liberty Tree Mall…

…I looked around and was surprised that no one else had taken notice of this growing fire. I walked closer and enjoyed the smell of burning wood chips and mulch. Calmly and confidently I kicked more mulch over the fire and then proceeded to stomp the flames out.

Thereby saving the Mall from complete and utter distruction. BooYah!

Great American Hero

The day was Saturday. The mission: Crafty supplies at ACMoore. I had just finished lunch from Wendy’s and was walking through the parking lot at the Liberty Tree Mall. I looked up ahead of me and saw what I thought was smoke. My rational mind kicked in and I reasoned that maybe they had those automatic sprinkler systerms and it was being aired out and that what I saw was steam…but no.

It was indeed smoke. From a rapidly growing little fire. I looked around, surprised that noone else seemed to notice it…

To be continued….(on account of my having to leave work!)

Found

This site has been keeping me quite occupied at work today. It is just a ton of stuff that people have found lying around…Pictures, notes, etc. It is pretty interesting reading the comments about the items.

My Amazing Talent

Here is a rundown of all the things I did this morning between 6:15 and 6:45.

Got up, showered, dressed, made: 1 sandwich, two lunches, 1 breakfast, brushed hair and teeth, kissed the husband in his sleep, ate breakfast, drove the 10 minutes to work, parked, punched in at work.

Phew! I didn’t know I had that kind of speed packed into me!

Voting in North Dakota

The fun fact for today:

The state of North Dakota does not have voter registration. Their system basically depends on the fact that most communities are very small and closely knit, and most everybody knows everybody. For people who are new to a precinct, usually a sworn affadavit is required. Interesting!

Dream Sequence

So last night I had a very vivid dream which I wanted to share with you all…

I was in the Army, apparently. I was dressed in military fatigues, wearing a helmet. I don’t remember being armed, but one would assume that I was. I was riding in an 18-passenger van with a bunch of other Army troops. We were driving somewhere dry, desertlike, but familiar. Not in Iraq or in a foreign country. I got the impression it was somewhere in the Southwest, maybe New Mexico or Arizona. We were hungry and we were looking for a place to eat. I was sitting near the back of the van, and I had a map that had the locations of Taco Bells in the area. I saw one on the map, and I tried to help the driver navigate to one. Then it got really weird. According to the map, the road to Taco Bell went straight up a sheer rock face. We got to the spot on the road where Taco Bell was supposed to be, but nothing was there. We stopped the van, and I got out and scrutinized the map. The rock face was tall, but not so tall that it couldn’t be climbed. I scrambled up the side, and peeked over the edge. There, as luck would have it, was a plaza with a Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut. I went in to the Taco Bell, but I didn’t have any cash on me. I made one of the other guys pay for me, but then I realized that there was an ATM inside the building and I could have gone there to get cash. Anyway, I ended up eating my food (I don’t recall what it was), and that’s about when the dream ended.

What the heck is that supposed to mean??

My Friend…Mr W?

I have two bits of randomness for today. Here goes:

1. This link is for Melanie. I know she’ll find it funny. Everyone else can look at it too, but you’ll have to figure out why it is so special to Melanie and I. Guesses can be submitted via the comments button 🙂

2. At the bank here we have a customer who I’ll call, Mr. W. Mr. W comes through the drive up every day. Often he appears to have imbibed a bit too much at breakfast :). Two days in a row now as I say, “thank you, have a great day, Mr W” he has replied back to me, “Yes, Yes. And remember to keep breathing. It’s very Important…Very Important.” And then he flashes me the peace sign as he drives off in his station wagon. Very amusing.

Gold Stars

I did one of my favorite things just now. I wrote a letter. Not an email or a comment on a blog, but a real, old fashioned, handwritten letter. It was on fun paper and I added in some kiddy stickers from the bank. Quite a nice letter, if I do say so myself.

I must say, however, that I was truely disappointed with my penmanship. There were no gold stars attached to that letter. Now, I’m not saying that I ever had beautiful handwriting, but it was decent at least. Today it seemed to be quite below par.

Looking for an easy scape goat for my sloppy writing I will lay the blame on email. I simply just don’t do that much actual writing anymore. I type all my assignments for school, email most of my ‘pen pals’, type up grocery lists while I’m at work… just not too much formal writing.

This saddens me. I’m going to challenge myself. I’ve decided that I will be more focused on my penmanship. I will write more slowly and will be more careful in forming my letters. That should help.
