In contrast to last weekend’s busyness with working on the house and going out to dinner and whatnot, this weekend was fairly low key. We did some housekeeping and busywork on Saturday, and Catherine and I took the opportunity to go to Lynch Park for a photo shoot.
What coal-burning power plant?
Today, for Mother’s day, I took care of all the meals. (I’m really good at cooking… up a trip to the local eateries for take-out.) After church, we went over to Lynch Park again for a picnic (we’re trying to get as much time there as possible before Memorial Day, at which point non-Beverly folk have to pay to park). Of course, more photos were taken.
Momma and Catherine twirl!
Yes, she got up there all by herself.
This week we’ll mostly be around home, but on Saturday we’re heading down to Florida for a week’s vacation with my parents and my sister and brother-in-law. I’m very much looking forward to it for many reasons: it will be good to see everyone in a nice, relaxed setting, good to have some nice weather, good to take a vacation from work (I’ve only taken one day off since New Year’s).
This past weekend, we were out visiting the Lowes in Townsend for Easter! We had a great time visiting with Nonni, Grandpa, Corey, and Vicky. We went to church at the TCCUCC and had Easter dinner at the 1761 Old Mill in Westminster (which is incidentally where my parents had dinner when they got engaged!).
I thought you might enjoy some good old fashioned gratuitous Catherine pics! You can see the rest of the pics from this weekend here.
Ken’s birthday observed today. More pics here.
Catherine and her Papa had a nice Valentine’s Dinner date last night and they were nice enough to let me come along! The three of us went to the Daily Harvest Cafe for some delicious sandwiches. At first we had a table for three, but Catherine decided she would rather sit in the comfy chairs- alone. with Papa. So I stayed at our table while she and Peter went off to color by the windows.
A good time was had by all!
I just realized this morning that an important date had passed us by without fanfare. So here it is in belated form:
Five years ago, on February 8 2003, Rebecca announced the birth of the website that you’ve come to know and love, World Wide Wood. prwdot.org itself had been around since November of 2001. At first, prwdot.org was my personal homepage, and then after Rebecca and I got married on 10/26/2002 it became simply a placeholder that redirected the reader to either Rebecca’s website or my website. Since 02/08/2003, we’ve blogged her together on all manner of topics. Our two main goals are to inform our friends and family of the goings-on in our household, and to educate and inform people about the interests and issues that matter to us.
We hope that you, our readers, have enjoyed following us all of these years. For your entertainment, here is a link to an archive of the previous versions of prwdot.org, going back to November 2001. For even more fun, here’s links to archives of some of my even older websites, going back to 1999:

Happy Five Years, and Happy Valentine’s Day!
Happy birthday to the best wife a man could hope for, and the best momma a girl could want. Here’s to the woman who keeps the house running smoothly, keeps the kid happy, and keeps us lean, mean and green.
And let’s not forget, the one who did a killer job polyurethaning (is that a verb?) our stairs! I love you!
Every year there is a small tribe of Tomtegubbes that watch over my Mom’s kitchen. They were always my favorite of her Christmas decorations. I was thrilled last year to find some of my own at Bestemors Scandinavian Shop
in Mystic, CT this past summer.
I did a little internet searching to find a little more about them. Here’s the wikipedia entry: Tomte.
We didn’t do a whole lot of decorating for Christmas this year but I did make sure that those little guys were up and they have added to my Christmas Cheer. Who else has something that makes them feel especially festive?
One Christmas many moons ago (four years ago, but who’s counting?) Peter and were spending Christmas in Pennsylvania with his family. It was my first Christmas away from my family and also my first Christmas morning in a hotel. I was feeling a bit melancholy about missing the big tree an ‘home-ness’ of the hotel and during a last minute gift run to the Schuylkill Mall, we decided to buy a little tree.
It was the cheapest tree that K-Mart sold. It was also fiber optic. I’ve had serious mixed feelings over the years about this tree. I typically do not like artificial trees, or light-up branches. It is too small and the branches change color on a too-fast rotation.
BUT-having lived in an apartment for years and not wanting a real tree this year (due to the two ts- travel and toddler) we continue to set up this little tree year after year. I fear it is starting to grow on me.
Still, I miss the pine smell, the cutting of the tree, the vacuuming of the fallen needles, the tucking of a bird’s nest inside and all the other things that come along with having a real tree. There’s always next year’s tree to plan for! How do you trim your trees?
