Over the past several months, we’ve done a lot of purging of various unneeded items from our apartment. At the same time, we’ve acquired a pretty good amount of stuff, and I think we’ve probably maintained equilibrium. Here’s a record of things that we have gotten rid of either by selling on [Craigslist](http://boston.craigslist.org/) or giving away on [Freecycle](http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FreecycleNorthShore/), along with things we have acquired.
Things purged and not replaced:
* One HP Pavillion desktop computer, Craigslisted
* Three CRT computer monitors, 15″ or larger, FreeCycled
* Two old SuperMac computer cases and a contoured keyboard, FreeCycled
* Two HP inkjet printers, FreeCycled
* One orange lounge chair and footstool, FreeCycled
* One ‘table-lamp’ (a sort of end table with a lamp built into it), Freecycled
* Two large executive desk chairs, one taken by KLowe, another Craigslisted
* At least three large trash bags full of clothes, donated at the Saint Joseph’s box
* A couple grocery bags of paperback books, donated to the Beverly Public Library
* One Handspring Visor Edge PDA (plus all accessories), taken by KLowe
* One Palm V PDA (plus all accessories), taken by CLowe
Things purged and replaced:
* One PowerMac G4 computer, sold to a co-worker, replaced by one Mac mini Core Duo computer and a miniStack v2 (the mini plus the miniStack take up about one eighth the space of the PowerMac G4)
Things acquired:
* One 5th gen video iPod
* One Canon PowerShot A530 digital camera
* One Panasonic PV-GS150 miniDV camcorder
* One crib
* One dresser with changing table
* One infant carseat with stroller carrier
* One pack-n-play, handy for storing…
* …lots of other baby stuff… too much to list here!
* (and some other stuff that we haven’t even brought to our apartment yet!)
I really feel good about getting rid of so much stuff. I wish we had gone through this excercise a long time ago, but I guess this time of changes is as good a time as any. So much of it was simply taking up space, both mental and physical. It’s true that much of that space has been filled up again, but at least this time it’s with stuff we (mostly) need or at least will have a good use for. Also, there are still probably things we can get rid of. Anybody want a lot of paperback books? 🙂
Me!!! I’ll take books! Are they good books? BTW, are there any particular children’s books you’d like to own? I have a membership with the Children’s Book of the Month Club (they offered free books and I got sucked in, now I can’t get out!), and I have to buy a couple more. Just let me know.
My books are mostly sci-fi and fantasy novels, as well as some theology/Christian living books, and some computer science textbooks. Becky also has quite a few books, mostly novels. If you’re down here at some point, you can take a look at them… although I think we’d really like to get rid of all of them at once. 🙂
I can take them all. We have a used bookstore in town, and the ones I don’t want to read could be turned in for credit towards other books. On the other hand, you might want to try that yourselves – you could rack up the credits, and then Becky could get cheap books to read while she’s at home alone.
We’re going to have to take a trip down to the Cape next Saturday anyway, but you might be meaning to get rid of them before the baby comes…. Just let me know.
