Russia, Bumper Stickers, etc

A few bumper stickers I’ve seen recently:

“My cat is smarter than your honor student.”
“The more people I meet, the more I love my cat.”

And from the schtick of “Joe Millionaire” to fine Russian cinema, we bring you Russian Ark. Russian Ark is being released in art cinemas around the US right now. It is the story of a contemporary filmmaker who jumps back 300 years into Russia’s past, and finds himself invisible and able to observe historical events unnoticed. What is amazing about this film is that it was shot in one single continuous shot, and that it was done in one single take. It took months of rehearsal, mounds of Russian ingenuity, and the design of a special hard drive for a digital video camera in order to pull off this feat. Wow!

What a Butler!

I am kind of ashamed to admit it, but we have been faithfully watching Fox’s “Joe Millionaire”. It comes along in a long line of sleazy shows provided by this prestigious station.

Anyhoo, soon ‘Joe’ will choose between two finalist girls… but then he must tell them that he’s been lying about being a millionaire, blah, blah, blah.

In my humble opinion the only good reason to watch is the super adorable Butler that ‘hosts’ the show. Too Much! Otherwise, each episode has been filled with snooty girls, tight clothes, lies, deception, and other displays of dispicable behavior.

Sadly, non of the above will keep us from tuning in next week to find out how it all ends… ahhh, popular culture!

Goof!

Oops! For anyone who’s watched the Bridal Party video, I must confess to making a goof. I labeled the picture of my sister as “Kirsten Wood”, when in fact I should have labeled it “Kirsten Carter” (seeing as how she is married to Mark Carter). I’ll fix that later tonight when I get a chance. Sorry!!

Bridal Party Movie!

I’ve finished my first movie using iMovie 3. It was an excruciating task, what with iMovie 3’s intrinsic slowness, and the additional slowness by my computer’s (relatively) slow processor. But it’s done! I stitched together photos of all the folks in our bridal party, using the “Ken Burns” effect, added a soundtrack (which any of our reception guests should recognize), and added some subtitles and transitions.

You can see the finished product here:

The Bridal Party

It’s in Apple QuickTime format, so make sure you have that installed before you try it. Also, the file is around 9.3 megabytes in size, so if you are on a modem-speed connection, it may take a little while to download it.

Enjoy!

Photo Guide!

I just finished writing up a new page for our site: The Photo Guide. This is a semi-narrative guide of most of the photos that are in our gallery. It can sometimes be daunting to wade through them, but hopefully this page will give you an overview of what’s in there, and perhaps lead you to find some previously-undiscovered photos. 🙂

Sunday Dinner

Usually after Church on Sunday Peter and I seek out somewhere to get dinner. We usually end up some place like Panera or On the Border where we join the throngs of other lunch seekers. Today we tried some place new.

Su-Changs is a Cantonese resturant in Peabody. Peter and his co-workers sometimes get take out there so we thought we’d try it. It was just lovely. It was a very nice “restaurant with chinese food” as opposed to a “chinese restaurant”. I had a chicken-veggie-rice noodle dish and Peter had a split dish of chicken adn veggies in a white wine sauce and shrimp in a spicy Cantonese sauce. All the food was just delicious.

We’re home now and I’ve just thrown together some beef stew ingredients into the crock pot…hopefully it will be done in time for dinner 🙂 I’m off to do some homework now. Enjoy your Sunday!
