The weekend was great! We had a wonderful and peaceful time at Mount Greylock.
We got to our campsite late on Friday night. Boy, was it cold – about 50 degrees! We huddled in our tent to keep warm as best we could. We decided that the next night, we would wear some extra layers of clothing. 🙂
On Saturday morning, we got up early and had breakfast, and took a 1.6 mile round-trip warm-up hike to the Cataract Falls.

After returning from our warm-up, we gathered our day-pack and headed out on the Hopper Trail.

We detoured from the Hopper Trail to the Overlook Trail, which gave us this nice view:

The Overlook Trail continued up to the summit for a total hike one way of 2.8 miles.

We went to the top of the War Memorial tower for some great views…

We also checked out Bascom Lodge…

We then headed back down the mountain, taking a brief trip on the AT:

The hike from the Summit to the campground via the Hopper trail was 1.7 miles. All told, we got in just over 6 miles of hiking on Saturday!
After our hiking was over, we took a short drive over to Stony Ledge, which had some spectacular views of the mountain…

…and also some nice wildflowers:

Finally, we settled down at our campground for the rest of the day and evening. We took a nap, played some cards, made a fire to cook hot dogs and marshmallows, and generally relaxed from the day. It was just fantastic:

Sunday morning we got up and drove over to Stony Ledge to have breakfast with a view. We then quickly packed up camp and headed back here to Beverly.
All told it was a great way to spend the weekend, and inexpensive too! I think we spent a total of $45 on everything, including camping fees, food, firewood, and gas.
