Rocky Mountain High

Hello from 6,336 feet above sea level! On Tuesday night we arrived safely (but lately) for our week-long stay in Manitou Springs, Colorado. We’re out here for a friend’s wedding, which is on Saturday, and in the meantime we’re enjoying the scenery, the local attractions, and pre-wedding activities with the family and friends of the wedding party.

Yesterday we went to the Cave of the Winds and explored downtown Manitou Springs, and then enjoyed a long, relaxing dinner at a Moroccan restaurant with the other wedding folks.

Today we took a hike in Red Rock Canyon, and then spent the afternoon resting and swimming back at the hotel. There’s lots more to do and see, and we’ll fill you in on that as it happens. For now, you can check out the pics from our trip thus far. I’ll leave you with a few of my favorites:

On Travel

Rebecca and I have always enjoyed traveling, and we’re doing our best to expose Catherine to as much of it as possible. Since she was born, we’ve taken several road trips, some trips by boat, and one trip on an airplane. Tomorrow, we’re leaving on a trip to Colorado, so travel is foremost on my mind.

Weekend in PA

This past weekend, Becky, Catherine and I drove down to [Schuylkill Haven, PA](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schuylkill_Haven) to visit with my Mom’s side of the family. We don’t get to see them very often, and when we do, it’s usually in the midst of Christmas festivities… not leaving a lot of time for any one-on-one interaction.

We stayed at the home of Mom’s sister Christine and her husband John. We relaxed at their house and were given the bed and breakfast treatment by Christine. We had a great time getting to see them, along with the rest of the Keefer clan who came over on Saturday evening for subs and high-stakes Uno. 🙂 Since I was enjoying spending time with my family, I didn’t take too many photos, but the ones I did take can be found [here](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/events/2007/pa_visit/) (family access is required to view the gallery).

A weekend with friends

Becky, Catherine and I drove out to Lee, Massachusetts this weekend to spend some time with friends. Bob and Leah came up from New Jersey with their son Lucas, and [Jeremy](http://thebiggspicture.org/) came down from New Hampshire. We picked the location because it happened to be roughly equidistant from all three of our homes…. about two and a half hours for each of us.

We stayed at the [Black Swan Inn](http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/productInfo.do?propertyCode=22036#null), did some shopping at the [Prime Outlets](http://www.primeoutlets.com/cntrdefault.asp?cntrid=1031) in Lee, visited the [Norman Rockwell Museum](http://www.nrm.org/) and walked the picturesque main street in Stockbridge, had some delicious pizza at Four Brothers Pizza Inn of Great Barrington, and just generally had a good time hanging out and catching up. The seven of us squeezed into Jeremy’s hotel room to watch [The Pink Panther](http://imdb.com/title/tt0383216/) on our laptop, which worked surprisingly well considering the 14 inch screen. 🙂

We had a great time getting to see our friends and take in a small slice of the Berkshires. If you’d like to see some photos of our weekend, head over [here](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/travels/2006/stockbridge/)!

Public Transit

I got this from [Kellan](http://laughingmeme.org/articles/2006/09/05/world-metros):

Here’s a list of the various public transportation systems I’ve ridden on:

Make your own at: b3co.com!

Sadly, they don’t have a selection for the Portland, Oregon [TriMet](http://www.trimet.org/) system… but I’ve been on that one, too!

Have a nice trip, see you next fall!

Well, hopefully sooner if possible. 🙂

It has become sort of a tradition (since last year, anyway) for us to take a trip out to the Midwest every fall. We do it in October because of a number of events: my birthday on the 6th, Dad’s birthday on the 15th, and our anniversary on the 26th. Also, the weather is not too hot, and tourist destinations are less crowded.

As you may have guessed from [Recent Diaper Changes](http://prwdot.org/2006/10/22/recent-diaper-changes/), we recently took this fall trip, from Friday, October 13 to Saturday, October 21. Here’s the low-down:

I’m posting from the middle of a workend. 🙂

This past weekend, Becky, Catherine and I went to Martha’s Vineyard with [Jenny](http://raingirl3179.livejournal.com/) and her parents. We enjoyed seafood and [sunset](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/travels/2006/vineyard_20060812/P1110146.JPG.html) in [Menemsha](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/travels/2006/vineyard_20060812/P1110107.JPG.html), lots of relaxing around the cottage, some [beach time](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/travels/2006/vineyard_20060812/P1110106.JPG.html), some [napping](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/travels/2006/vineyard_20060812/P1110042.JPG.html), and [fun with Catherine](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/travels/2006/vineyard_20060812/P1110131.JPG.html). As always, a restful and relaxing weekend. I came back on Sunday night while Becky and Catherine stayed down in Oak Bluffs. I was at work today and I’ll be going in tomorrow, and then Wednesday morning I’m headed back down to spend the rest of the week and next weekend on the Vineyard. This will be my first time experiencing [Grand Illumination](http://www.mvcma.org/grand.htm), and I’m very excited. 🙂

You can see all of the photos from this past weekend [here](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/travels/2006/vineyard_20060812/).

We’ve got a friend in Pennsylvania

Johanna and Dan

|ppp|fff

Well, to be more precise, we’ve got Family in Pennsylvania. And we went to visit them last weekend.

The ocassion? Cousin Johanna’s Wedding. (Congratulations Johanna and Dan!)

It was Catherine’s first long road trip and she did very well in the car. We didn’t have to stop any more times than usual; we just timed our stops according to her schedule. The drive did take a little longer than normal because our stops were longer than we’re used to. As always, Peter and I loved the drive, and the ‘us’ time that it allows us.

Before the wedding we had the opportunity to hang out with Grandma and Grandpa Wood and Aunt Kirsten and Uncle Mark. We even took a nice swim in the hotel pool! The warmer water and more quiet atmosphere made the experience much better for Baby Catherine. She really enjoyed being in the water, and Mom and Dad had fun with her there, too!

Johanna and Dan had a lovely wedding. The torrential rain was nice enough to taper off by noon leaving a bright, sunny day! By a stroke of amazing luck everyone from Peter’s side of the family was in attendance. Grandparents, aunts and uncles, grandkids and great grandkids! (See Catherine with her [great](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/events/2006/johannas_wedding/before_the_wedding/P1100648.JPG.html) [grandparents](http://prwdot.org/gallery2/v/events/2006/johannas_wedding/before_the_wedding/P1100649.JPG.html)!) The wedding photographer got a large group photo. What an opportunity!

To everyone in PA (see all pics from the weekend here) it was great to see you (or to meet you in Catherine’s case). We hope to see you again soon!
